BBC article here, talking about Morrisons removing all of the coin locks on their trolleys.

And I have mixed feelings. Because it is a pain having to ensure you have a pound coin with you whenever you go shopping*. And I don't like being treated as if I'm going to steal a trolley.

On the other hand, I do remember when they first came in, and we went from never being able to find a small trolley, to suddenly there being a load of them available at all times...

*Or constantly carrying a thing which is the same shape as one. and also seems to always cost £1.

Neither the Tesco nor the Sainsburys near us (by near I mean "within 5 minutes walk") uses coin locks, there are occasional trolleys in the nearby beck but not many. The nearby Wilkinsons does use them, and despite havign one of those fake coin keyrings in my pocket I just use one of their larger baskets and rarely buy as much as I possibly would if I'd got a proper trolley.

Can't stand them, but I've lived in areas where theft was common and you'd find them dumped everywhere, I've no clue why Brighouse doesn't seem to have the problem other areas I've lived in do.

Tesco gave me a token free when I asked for one (having no pound coins.)

Also, I can't remember seeing a trolley rusting half-submerged in a canal for the last fifteen years.
