There's all kinds of linguistic coolness going on in England in this time period...

Don't I know it. My first degree was in old and middle English and we moved to William Langland's part of England (north Shropshire) a little while back, so I'm hearing those Midlands middle English alliterative cadences every day! :o)

There's an even longer and even more interesting analysis of the failure of New Atheism by Scott Alexander. His answer as to where it disappeared to is that it was swallowed up by the social justice movement, as most of the atheists came to the conclusion that this was more important and effective than abstract questions of the existence of a god. Which leaves, as Myers writes, the remaining hard core as part of the alt-right.

Richard Dawkins is my primary example of a person profoundly smart about one thing and profoundly stupid about another. In books like The Blind Watchmaker he's the most brilliant explainer of evolutionary biology ever born. But he made the mistake of thinking he must be equally smart about everything, made a fool of himself ignorantly denouncing religion, and on discovering this responded by digging the pit deeper.
