2. Link does not appear to match your heading.

5. Science has moved on quite a bit in the thirty years since the original film. The idea of hairy dinosaurs wasn't around in public then (don't know whether the scientists were thinking it).

"Male flight describes a similar phenomenon when large numbers of females enter a profession, group, hobby or industry—the men leave. That industry is then devalued."

Oh yeah. Absolutely.

Oddly, my own career of programming historically went the other way - it started off often seen as "female" work (at least I recall reading)

Yes but the women were forced out, sometimes after training their higher paid replacements.

I think that exactly proves the point.

Like with so many things - Why the F___ are (a large fraction) of humans like this?

Anything women do is worth less. Regardless of what it is. Depressingly, I feel it's even pointless to ask why. It's too prevalent and persistent for me to have any hope that it can ever be changed. Whatever combo of nature and nurture and society makes this so seems utterly universal.

I don't know if we're the worst. But we aren't great.

Re. lighting candles, the other day I watched this lecture by Rev. Ron Lancaster, founder of Kimbolton Fireworks and previously chaplain and chemistry teacher at Kimbolton school. (Allegedly known as the “master blaster pastor”.) https://youtu.be/M03esB_HBzM

Anyway, there’s a bit in amongst all the chemistry where he says some particularly colourful flares are good for christmas services, which was a mildly surprising reminder that he’s also a vicar.

Sadly I gather Kimbolton fireworks has gone out of business https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Lancaster_%28chemist%29

3. Less men are going to college - does "male flight" explain why?

Man, those comments went real bad, real fast.

Sensible. I really ought to know better than to glance at the comments, but sometimes I just can't resist. (And by "sometimes" I mean "almost always".)
